FINANCIAL LOSS

CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION CONTRIBUTING CAUSES WAR AND RESTRICTIONS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday Contributing causes of financial loss on the Centennial Exhibition were explained by Mr T. C. A. Hislop, chairman of directors of the exhibition company, at the opening of the centennial conference of the Commercial Travellers’ Association today. He said the exhibition, which now had under four weeks to go, had been a success, but not a financial success. Floor space that would have brought in a certain £50,000 had been pencilled in, but by a stroke of pen that had been taken away, the import restrictions preventing intending exhibitors from taking part. That loss was equivalent to 6s 8d in the pound to shareholders. In addition, war and petrol restrictions had an adverse effect. However, there would still be an attendance of over two and a-half millions.
