NEW ZEALAND NAVAL FORCES YEW ZEALAND NAVAL FORCES. LONG SERVICE. (NOT for duration of the war only.) ENTRY OF STOKERS. SEAMEN BOYS. AND SHORT SERVICE SEAMEN. Twenty STOKERS are required for entry in May, 1940. Candidates for entry as Stokers should be between the ages of 13 and 22 on 3rd May, 19^0. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 15th MARCH, 1940. Twenty-two SEAMEN BOYS are required for entry in May, 1940. Candidates for entry as Seamen Boys should be between the ages of 15 years 3 months and 16 years 3 months on 31st May, 1940. Candidates within one month of these age limits may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Applications for entry must reach the Defence Office NOT LATER THAN 12th April. 1940. Twenty SHORT SERVICE ORDINARY SEAMEN are required for entry in June, 1940. Candidates for entry should be between the ages of 17i and 23 on 14th June, 1940. Service is for six years in the New Zealand Naval Forces, and six years in the Reserve, with an option of transferring to continuous service if recommended. Knowledge of cooking and baking is desirable but not essential. ASSISTANT STEWARD OR BOY STEWARD. Four vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service for Assistant Steward. Age limits 18 to 23 years. Twelve years’ continuous service from age 18 for Boy Steward Age limits 16 to 18 years. Candidates are required to pass a test in reading, writing and simple arithmetic. ENGINE ROOM ARTIFICER. Six vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during present year 19$ to 24 years. Candidates must be competent at one of the following trades Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Coppersmith, Boilermaker or Enginesmith They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry. Those who hold a 2nd Class Engineer’s Board of Trade Certificate will be accepted without technical examination. ELECTRICAL ARTIFICERS. Foul vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during present year 19f to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient fitters, or fitters and turners, or instrument makers. They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry. ORDNANCE ARTIFICERS. Four vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits for candidates applying during the present year to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient fitters or fitters and turners. They will be required to pass a technical examination and trade test prior to entry. SHIPWRIGHT. Four vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 18 to 25 years. Candidates must' be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience as Shipwright. Will be required to pass a trade test prior to entry. BLACKSMITH. Two vacancies for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits 19 to 25 years. Candidates must be thoroughly efficient workmen with at least 5 years’ practical experience as Blacksmith. Will be required to pass a trade test prioi to entry. PAINTER. One vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service. Age limits

Knowledge of dispensary is desirable but not essential. WRITER PROBATIONER OR BOY WRITER. One vacancy for 12 years’ continuous service for Writer Probationer. Age limits 18 to 23. Twelve years’ continuous service from age 1 18 for Boy Writer. Age limits 16 [to 18 years. Candidates are rej quired to pass a test in English and Arithmetic. A sound general education is essential.
