GARLAND—CARTER PARCHMENT TAFFETA GOWN A charming wedding was solemnised at All Saints’ Church, Matamata, on the afternoon of Saturday, September 30, when Grace Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs T. C. Carter, Okauia, Matamata, was married to John Benjamin, only son of Mrs T. R. Harding, Matamata, and the late Mr L. Garland. The ceremony was performed by Canon F. Quintrell, and Mr Perry Ingham presided at the organ. The bride who was given away by her father, wore a graceful gown of parchment brocaded taffeta cut on classical lines, the very full skirt falling softly at the back to form a sun-ray pleated train. The bodice was fashioned with heart-shaped neckline and a pearl-studded corselet belt encircled the waistline. Her embroidered tulle veil was caught to the head with a top-knot of camelias and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The Attendants The bride was attended by Miss Hilda Chilton and Miss May Soames as bridesmaids, and they wore similar period frocks of violet taffeta with mauve relief. Their short tulle veils of violet were caught to the head with top-knots of primroses and they carried sheafs of daffodils to tone. Two little flowergirls, Jacqueline Wallace and Jocelyn Cairns, Cambridge, wore mauve taffeta frocks cut on the same lines as the bridesmaids’ with sprays of primroses in their hair. They carried posies of the same flowers. Mr B. McGovern, of Te Awamutu, was the best man, and the groomsman was Mr N. Garland, of Cambridge. A reception was held later at the Rialto Tearooms, where the guests were received by Mrs Carter assisted by Mrs Harding. Mrs Carter was wearing a frock of deep-clover lavenelle, with hat and accessories to tone, and the latter was wearing an ensemble of teal-grey georgette, with teal Bangkok hat, and matching accessories. They both carried posies of spring flowers. When Mr and Mrs J. B. Garland left for their honeymoon, the bride travelled wearing a pale-clover frock, and a wool georgette coat in a clover shade, with navy hat and accessories. They will make their home in Te Awamutu. CARTER—SOAMES VIOLET TAFFETA FROCKS Later in the afternoon the marriage of May Genevieve, eldest daughter of Mrs J. Latta, of Leamington, Cambridge, and the late Mr M. Soames, of Canada, and Albert Thomas, second son of Mr and Mrs T. C. Carter, Okauia, Matamata, was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Church, Matamata, by the Rev. J. H. Coombes. The bride was attended by Miss Hilda Chilton as bridesmaid, and both were attired in the frocks worn for the previous ceremony. Mr L. Carter attended his brother as best man. The bride travelled wearing a rust shaded costume, black hat accessories. Mr and Mrs A. T. Carter will make their heme at Okauia. WRIGHT—HOLMES LAVENDER SHADED FROCKS The marriage was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Claudelands, on Saturday, October 7, between Myrtle Margaret, only daughter of Mr and Mrs O. V. Holmes, of Hamilton, and William Thomas, eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr C. Wright, of Christchurch. The Rev. H. G. Gilbert was the officiating minister. The bride, who entered the church with her brother, Mr L. Holmes, wore a beautiful gown of bridal satin cut on classical lines and finished with rings of faggoting at the neckline and hemline. The skirt fell to form a long train which was finished with a large lovers’ knot of faggoting, and her beautiful tulle veil was held in place by a halo of orange blossom and tulle. She carried a shower bouquet of azaleas, begonias and maidenhair fern. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Betty Wright, Christchurch, sister of the bridegroom, Miss Jessie Thomson, Katikati, Miss Audrey Holmes, Matamata, cousin of the bride, and little Beverley Martin was the flowergirl. The ’maids wore similar frocks of lavender taffeta cut on slim-fitting lines, the bodice and sleeves being fully ruched, while the skirts were finished with rings of violet and lavender net. Shoulderlength veils of the lavender net were caught to the head by halos of violets and stiffened, pleated net, and they carried bouquets to tone. The Flowergirl The little flowergirl was wearing a frock of lavender taffeta, the ski it being gathered at the waistline while the fully ruched bodice was finished with a V-neckline and ruched sleeves. Tiny rings of violets and net encircled the hemline and her bonnet was designed with a ruched crown and a brim of pleated net. A large velvet bow of violet tied under the chin and she carried a basket of lavender shaded anemones. Mr J. Wright, Christchurch, was the best man and the groomsmen were Messrs Oscar and Stanley Holmes. As the bride left the church she was presented with a white satin horseshoe by Miss Zelda Holmes, of Matamata. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Centreway Rooms, Mrs Holmes receiving the guests wearing a navy-blue costume and furs. She carried a posy of orange and yellow calendulas and daisies. Mrs Wright was wearing a navy and floral ensemble with toning hat and accessories. Her posy was composed
