FOOD IN CAMP

NUTRITION INQUIRY COMMITTEE’S FINDINGS DIET ON SOUND LINES (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The inquiry into the nutrition of the armed forces has now reached the stage where recommendations have been drawn up for the Medical Research Council by the committee set up to investigate the question. This committee consisted of Colonel F. T. Bowerbank, Director-General of Medical Services; LieutenantColonel S. H. Crump, Deputy-Quartermaster-General; Dr. M. B. M. Tweed, Miss A. E. Lorimer and Mr C. R. Bach, Government physical welfare officer. The committee discussed the question from the point of view of what was not merely desirable but reasonably practicable in the way of augmenting the diet of the forces in order to satify the full needs of nutrition in the light of modem knowledge. A quick preparation by the committee of its report was undertaken at the direction of the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, who said the Government was concerned to leave no stone unturned in providing adequately for the men. The committee has agreed that the diet in camps is on sound lines, provided that certain protective foods are included. Its recommendations will now come before the Medical Research Council.
