VIOLENT ASSAULT STRUGGLE WITH PAY CLERK TWO MEN ARRESTED (By TelegTaph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday A daring attempt at robbery with violence was committed at the M.L.C. building, which is in course of construction at the comer of Hunter Street and Lamb ton Quay, about 4.15 p.m. today. A pay clerk, Mr William Parr, was carrying the wages of 50 men, amounting to about £250, when he was attacked by two men, one of whom struck him a severe blow on the face. After a struggle they wrested the bag from one of the attackers, who then made off with his companion. Two men, who were alleged to have been implicated in the attempted robbery, were arrested as they were about to leave by the limited express three hours after the attack took place. The arrest was made by Detective G. Hogan and actingDetective G. C. Urquhart. The pay clerk collected the money from the office and had just stepped on to the ground floor of the M.L.C. building when he was attacked. His face was considerably swollen as a result of the blow he was struck. No money was missing, as the. bag was recovered unopened.
