STRIKE OF ENGINEERS SEVERAL COLLIERIES IDLE CONSIDERATION BY UNIONS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright > SYDNEY, Nov. 2 More than a dozen collieries in the northern district of New South Wales were rendered idle to-day by a strike of 300 members of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, who are demanding a 40-hour week. The men involved are those employed in power houses and on the maintenance of mine machinery. The hold-up is receiving the consideration of the combined mining unions in Sydney. It advised the strikers to return to work.
