Dunlop, superintendent of the Waikeria Borstal institution, in the report on penal institutions presented to Parliament. He also stated that several inmates attended night classes and a number pursued individual studies provided by correspondence colleges. Schoolboys’ Tour Twenty senior boys from Rongotai College, in the change of a master, Mr J. T. McCaw, will leave Wellington on August 28 on a tour of the North Island, during which they will visit most of the well-known scenic resorts. The party will travel in a sleeping car which will be attached to local trains so that the bulk of travelling will be carried out in the day time. Last year was the first time such a tour had been arranged by the college, and it was so successful that it was decided to repeat It this year. Fire In Kitchen The Hamilton Fire Brigade received a call at 10.46 a.m. today to a house at 11 Seddon Road where a fire had started in a kitchen. The outbreak was soon extinguished with first-aid apparatus and little damage was done. Mrs A. McKinnon is the owner of the house, which is occupied by her and Mrs E. Everest, the lire occurring in the portion occupied by Mrs Everest. A faulty stove is stated to have been the cause. Increase In Income The accounts of the Standard Insurance Company, Limited, Dunedin, lor the year ended June 30, show a net premium income of £19*6,882, an increase of £12,002 over the previous year. Net revenue was £22*2,767, compared with £210,270, and expenditure £ 177,821, compared with £166,317, leaving a balance of £44,940. The balance-sheet total is £30,160 higher at £772,870.
