TENNIS IN AMERICA BEST MATCH OF DAY BOSTON, August 18. Hoprnan and Miss Marble defeated Crawford and Miss Nuthall, S — 7, 66—-4, and thus enter the semifinals against Riggs and M.ss Stammers. The winners provided the best match in the combined event of the day. Crawford played splendidly, but Miss Marble was poor. Mulloy and Miss Valeria Scott upset Bromwich and Madame Matheiu, whom they defeated, o—6, 6—4, 6—2. The No. 1 foreign seedings appeared to have the match well in hand, but Madame Mathieu cracked up. Bromwich also had a let-down in the final stages. MOTOR RACING MR JOHN COBB OPTIMISTIC BONNEVILLE, August 18. Mr John Cobb will attempt to make a record motor run on Monday. He said: “The car performed satisfactorily today. I did not extend it and l feel confident that I have the speed to break the record.”
