A SHERRY PARTY
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S WIFE EXTERTAIXED IX LONDON LONDON, July 17 "1 do not know of any High Commissioner's wife who has done a better job that Mrs Bill Jordan,” declared Colonel E. ff. W. Lascelles, chairman of the New Zealand Group of the Overseas League, last week. Mrs Jordan, who recently recovered from a severe illness, was entertained by the group at a sherry party. Her husband, the High Commissioner, and her son and daughter. Mr \V. Jordan, jun., and Miss Gwen Jordan, were also present. Colonel Lascelles congratulated Mrs Jordan on her recovery. "We know that she does not only do her own job,” he added, "hut she does half of her husband’s as well. Laughter.) That is to say that no High Commissioner can do his job at all unless he has a wife to do half of it.” Mrs Jordan was presented with a spray of pick roses »and ferns—"a combination representing the Mother Country and New Zealand,” said Colonel Lascelles. Returning thanks, Mrs Jordan said how much she appreciated the many kindnesses shown to her by New Zeai landers during her illness. Their consideration, she said, was “just marvellous.” She did not regard her life in London as a “job,” but as a series of pleasures. She was always delighted to meet New Zealanders at the many functions.
