RICH GIRL ELOPES FROM CASTLE
Marriage Over Anvil at Gretna Green
Eloping from her father’s home, - I.ochnaw Castle, Stranraer, Miss | Margaret Patricia Porritt, 20-vear-old j daughter of a Manchester cotton mag- , nate, went to Gretna Green. There, over the anvil, she married Flying-Officer Hector Yeats Lawrence, whose home is at Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. Immediately afterwards they left by car. Later Mr Lawrence arrived at his R.A.F. station—Abingdon, (Berkshire. He had been on leave for a few days. After learning of the ceremony, Mr and Mrs O. \V. Porritt, the girl's father and mother, left Lochnaw Castle
with their younger daughter. They have been living in a chauffeur’s house in the castle grounds while the staff are on holiday. A sister of Mr Lawrence said: “Mr Lawrence and Miss Porritt have been engaged for some months. They met about a year ago. They had intended to have a church wedding quite soon, but they must have suddenly changed their plans.” “If they wanted to get married quickly and without the family being present—well, it’s their business," was the only comment Mr Lawrence’s mother would make.
