PRICE OF BEER
RISE IN HAWKE’S BAY (By Telegraph. —Press Association) HASTINGS, Friday As from to-morrow the retail price of beer in Hawke’s Bay will be Gd a gallon or one penny a large bottle dearer. The decision to pass on in this way a portion of the increased costs loaded on to hotel licensees was reached at a meeting of hotel-keeper's of Hawke’s Bay and the Licensed Victuallers Union. “Shouting’’ is something that is to go by the board. In a statement issued this morning by the secretary of the licensed victuallers, Mr G. B. Menzies, explained that after considering the question of the increased wholesale cost of beer flue to extra duty, sales tax. etc, the hotel-keepers in Hawke’s Bay have decided to raise ttie retail price by the cost of duty only, which is Gd a gallon. The increase of id a large bottle decided on for bottled ales is actually less than the extra ’cost passed on by the wholesalers to the licensees.
