CAMP IMPROVEMENTS

PORT WAIKATO PLANS GRANT FROM KING GEORGE FUND 'Proposals under which the Waikato Children's Camp League's property at Port Waikato will participate in The King George V Memorial Fund have oeen received by Mr VV. 11. Paul, chairman of the league, in a letter from the secretary of the board which controls the fund. The letter stated that the board had passed a resolution approving the requisition of the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, for a grant of £3500 to the Auckland central council for the purpose of making alterations and additions to the existing health camp buildings at Port Waikato, provided the Waikato ’Children’s Camp League was willing to enter into an agreement with the King George V Memorial Fund Board to vest the property in the board, if at any timo the league ceased to function. A further stipulation of the resolution was that progress payments he made only when the alterations and additions had been advanced to Ihe satisfaction of the Director-General of Health or the hoard. The hoard was of the opinion that local interest in the camp would he best maintained if the league continued in control. Mr Paul said today that plans for the lining of the dormitories at the camp, the provision of toilet accommodation and an Bft verandah for each dormitory, the installation of septic tanks, and the building of a model laundry had been approved by the league. It. was hoped that Hie work would he completed in time for the opening of the next camp at Christmas.
