NEW PARKING LAWS

HALF-HOUR RESTRICTION ENFORCEMENT TO-MORROW Half-hour parking restrictions in Victoria Street will he enforced rigidly from to-morrow, said Mr W. E. Nicholson, chief traffic inspector to the Hamilton Borough Council, to-day. Mr Nicholson pointed out that in amendments to the Motor Traffic Regulations, 1936, gazetted on June 22, to come into force from to-morrow, power is granted to enforce parking restrictions in any area provided the local authority has the regulation signs posted. With this new regulation there was no need for the council to have its by-law reinstated, added Mr Nicholson, who said that the regulation signs had been posted in Victoria Street, Hamilton, for some time. They were yellow discs with a large letter “P” printed in the centre and the numeral 30 underneath the letter. “The additional use of Victoria Street by traffic over the last 12 months has been so great that it has been exceedingly difficult to maintain order,” said Mr Nicholson. “Now that the parking regulations can be enforced a strenuous effort will be made to improve traffic conditions in the town, and motorists committing other breaches will be more severely dealt with than hitherto.”
