ROUNDLY CONDEMNED
PROPOSED TAKING OF LAND ADVERSE EFFECT OF CHANGE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Government proposal to Lake Hutt Valley market gardening lands for housing purposes was roundly condemned at the conference of New Zealand market gardeners. Apart from the ethical aspect, the opinion was expressed that it would be an uneconomic shift for tlie gardeners, as .any transportation to a more distant area would inevitably result in increased prices for consumers. if was further claimed that any change put -gardeners hack at least ten years in their work, and that the Hutt \ alley was the only location for gardens to supply the Wellington market with vegetables, whereas other land was available for houses. The conference resolved that it was entirely in sympathy with the protest recently lodged by the commercial gardenersjMMhe Hutt Valley.
