FACILITIES LACKING
HAMILTON DENTAL CLINIC UNABLE TO COPE WITH WORK GOVERNMENT AID SOUGHT Reference to the report from Dr. R. M. S. Taylor, district dental superintendent, advising an increase in dental clinic facilities for Hamilton, which was considered during the year, was made by Mr H. M. Baker, chairman of the Hamilton Dental Clinics Committee at the annual meeting last evening. Dr. Taylor recommended that two further A class clinics should be established. The work in Hamilton had grown out of all proportion and there were a number of country schools waiting tojoin. A third of the cost of the new clinics would have to be borne by the committee, and would amount to about £350. The clinics had been kept up-to-date, but the most pressing need new floor-covering. Art Union Sanctioned Lengthy discussion took place on ways and means of raising the money for the provision of clinics. A letter ■was received from the Minister of internal afTairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, granting permission for the conducting of an art union, subject to certain conditions. Several members objected to the art union and advanced other schemes. It was considered by others that additional permanent accommodation was not required and that only a travelling clinic was necessary. A travelling nurse was also suggested. Mr Baker pointed out that Dr. Taylor had emphasised the need for established clinics and he considered it necessary to consider expert opinion. Mr R. G. Young maintained that the Government should be approached through the members for the various districts in order to have the clinics established. Poor Attendance As a large number of school committees represented did not favour an are union, Mr Baker considered that other means of raising money should be examined. The fact that few school committees ■were represented at the meeting was commented on by one of the delegates. / He considered It indicated that tiiose / not in attendance were failing in their work. It was decided that every school committee should approach the member for its district with a view to his negotiating with the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, to grant financial assistance to the project. The following officers were elected: Chairman, Mr H. M. Baker; secretary, Mr H. W. Fisher; auditor, Mr P. Elliott; sub-committee, Messrs Baker, , Fisher, N. Holden and J. Graham.
