COMMUNITY SINGING

FRANKTON ATTRACTION

INTEREST IN COMPETITIONS The interest evinced by the public in the community singing arranged by the Frankton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was demonstrated last evening when another successful function was held in the Frankton Town Hall. Over 300 people were present, including a large number of children, who joined in the singing competitions arranged for them. The boys’ section was won by Roley Mill and the girls’ section by June Fox. The standard attained by the youthful competitors was particularly high. Items were, rendered during the evening by the following artists: Misses Turner, Owens, Ailsa Woolven (songs), E. Morris dancing . Messrs J. Kilburn, T. Lerkie (mouth-organ solos), and Newton (exhibition of club swinging,. Mr P. Tuwere and his orchestra also entertained with numbers. The accompanist at the piano was Mr W. Whitehead and the song leader, Mr T. Skittrup.
