SUCCESSFUL SEASON REVIEWED ACCLIMATISATION ACTIVITIES (Special to Times.) HUNTLY. Tuesday. A large gathering of members and supporter:- attended the annual meeting <>r the Huntly \cclimatisation Society and Gun club. The president, Mr A. Harlock, presided. In presenting the report or the club’s activities, the secietar.v, Mr A. H. Berry, gave a brief resume of the progress of ihe club over the past 15 years. The old Rod and Gun Club, which had ceased to function in 1921, had been reformed in 192 4. The club had carried on with only a .-man membership for some years, but since 1929 had shown a very remarkable growth, until a record had been established for tlris season of sonic 80 llnancial members. while the assets had increased from about £2o to the present tlgure of over £2OO. The nuances or the club were most sound, tiie income and expenditure account showing a credit of £l2B 16s 2d against £76 13s lOd Tor the previous year, while .the balance or assets over liabilities Stood at £2OB Its 2d. Membership was still growing, showing an increase or 20 on last year’s. The club had held six clay bird shoots during the season, and all had been successful. financially and socially, and had shown a nett profit oT about £7 8. Club Championships During the season, the club was unsuc- ! cesslully represented by a team in the I Ileid Cup match. Congratulations were | extended to the members who had won ; the various club championships as l'ol- ] lows: —senior clay championship, G. McMullan Morrinsville), junior; 11. Meyer i (Huntly;. sparrow championship; and \ double" rise championship, N. Bossad i Huntly). ! The club had on hand a handsome cup, i presented by members or the Clinch farnj Hv. a- a memorial trophy to the late Mr ; b. Clinch. This trophy was to he for : competition between gun clubs, and Huntly ; i- to be tiie ili>t defender. The club has b*-.■!! authorised to hold the Auckland Proi vincial clay Bird Championship at Huntly | The club ' thanks were clue to Mr R. G. 1 Ralph for hi? genero>ity in continuing to : place his grounds at the club's disposal, i The acclimatisation side or the club’s i activities bad been well looked after dur- | ing tin- past season. The club had been ! represented at every meeting or the Auck- : land council, and Mr H. Meyer, one of the i delegates, had attended meetings as far afield as Whitiauga. The club was also . fortunate in having as a member of the Auckland council, tiie president, Mr A. Harlock. Not only had these delegates at tended meetings but they had also toured most of the Auckland Province, inspecting suitable areas for game liberation*, making certain that pheasant were liberated in suitable localities and not wasted
j by being: put in unsuitable areas as in tbe past. Liberation of Pheasant In the Huntly area alone this season approximately 190 pheasant had been liberated. and when it was realised that a few years ago the average liberation tn this district was about 50 birds, it proved decisively the benefit derived Troin the increase or os in the license Tee. Liberations for the Auckland district had increased from iono Tor the £1 license ree to 4000 rot' the 25s ree. The license fee this season will be 30s. an increase or a Turther ss. At the direction or the Hon. \v. E. Parry. Minister or Internal Affairs, this extra 5s is to be spent entirely on the destruction or vermin. It was felt that this policy was very sound. Tor the toll taken or pheasant, quail and duck, by stoats, weasels, cats and hawks must be tremendous. It was rairly evident that the coming- season should be a g-ood one Tor all sportsmen, as the breeding- season Tor g-ame had been an excellent one. The new hatchery was a decided sue-, cess, and the club’s allocation or nngerling trout this year was 50.000. With such liberations each year it was hoped that fishermen would beTore long- be able to enjoy their sport in the Waikato at Huntly. The club expressed thanks to all those who had assisted during- the year. Election of Officers The election or officers resulted as Tollows: Patron, Mr A. MacKinnon; vicepresidents. Messrs. H.
