SURF LIFE SAVERS

STANDARD IN DOMINION. AUSTRALIA’S COMMENDATION. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. Expressing surprise at the high standard of efficiency that had been attained by surf life-saving teams in New Zealand, Mr J. R. Cameron, manager of the visiting Australian team, which returned to Auckland this morning from a North Island tour, said he had found little to criticise and had noted several things which appeared to be an improvement on Australian methods, notably the brake used on reels. The only respect in which the Dominion life-savers were less skilled than the Australians was riding in the surf, an art which apparently had not been cultivated in New Zealand. “My principal criticism of the training of New Zealand teams is that they do not relax sufficiently,” he said. “They are too much on parade when on the beach, which tires a team. This means that they are not at the peak of tiieir efficiency when called upon.” Mr Cameron added that the team thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
