SHOT BY DAUGHTER. ALLEGEDLY ATTACKING WIFE. INTENDED TO FRIGHTEN HIM, NELSON, Tuesday. Mr J. Caldwell, a farmer, of Kiwi, was iound dead to-day as the result of a gunshot wound. In consequence of information received Inspector F. Lewin, Sergeant Simister and Constable Houston left immediately for Kiwi, which is about 440 miles from Nelson. Police investigations show that deceased was shot by his 15-year-old daughter while he was allegedly attacking his wife. The daughter picked up the rifle to frighten her father and the rifle went off, the bullet entering his neck. Death was instantaneous. Shots wore fired and three police were wounded. The strike has extended to the metallurgical works in the province of Hainhault. SANCTIONS TO BE DROPPED. DECISION OF MINISTERS. LONDON, June 15. According to the Daily Mail a hurried meeting of members of the Cabinet, including Mr Eden, in the Prime Minister’s room, decided that sanctions must be dropped ana Britain lead the League in a retreat from the sanctions policy. Twenty speakers, at the weekly meeting of the Consercvative Members’ Committee, were unanTmous that sanctions must be terminated.
