CHARGE OF ASSAULT.
STRUGK WITH A TORCH. ‘ TWO MEN SENT FOR TRIAL. TAUMARUNUI. Friday. A sequel to the discovery of a young man, in an unconscious condition, on the steps of Dr. \V, Fisher's surgery at Taumarunul on the morning 01’ April 29 occurred in the Taumarunui Police Court to—day, when Cyril Dun—ning Henderson, box factory worker, and Vernon McMinn, labourer. were charged with committing assault, causing actual bodily harm. Henderson, the man who was found unconscious, stated that he and McMinn were returning together from a party at Lower Rangaora when Mc— Minn and a. man named Carter accused him of thelt. McMinn struck him repeatedly with an electric torch. He recovered in hospital. where he remained for some weeks. He did not remember stabbing McMinn with a penknife. McMinn stated that he struck Henderson twice with his fist. They closed and he felt a pain in the back as if he had been stabbed. He drew out his torch and struck Henderson rseveral times. He attempted to drag ‘ilenderson to ‘his own home, but did not have sumcicnt strength, and he saw Henderson walk away. McMinn later had his back attended to by a. doctor. :Both men were committed to the Supreme Court at Hamilton for trial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £2O in each case. =—_.-=_=
