FARM LABOUR.

GOVIRNMINT’B INTENTION!l\'o FACTORY HOURS. (Special to Times.) .\IORRINSVILLE. Monday. A veiled indication of the action that would be taken by the Government. in dealing with the farm labour position was given by the Dominion lpresident or the Farmers‘ Union. Mr W. J. Poison. .\I.P. at .\lorrinsvllle today. He stated that he was unable to break a confidence by giving full deo tails but. he was in a position to state that there would be no factory hours applicable to farm employees. Mr Poison sald the arrangements made between the union and the Government in regard to farm labour were better than the farmer would actually get. as since the scheme had been devised the price of farm labour had materially risen. “'ith 16s being paid for public works employees, no farmer ‘would be able to get men at the rate |that had been arranged. It. was to Ihave been on a sliding scale accordling to the price of butterfat. There was to be no question of hours. as the union representalh‘es had suc—ceeded in convincing the Government that it was impossible to work {arms under factory conditions. However. ithe Government considered that ad< ditional compensation should be afforded workers by the provision of extra holidays. “i thought. the arrangement, was eminently fair, but under the changed Iconditious I do not believe it will be worth the paper it is written on." ‘added Mr Poison.
