GERMAN COLONIES

THEIR RETURN DEMANDED. A MATTER OF JUBTIOE. MEN READY TO FIGHT. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Feb. 20, 1.0 p.m.) BERLIN, Feb. 19. A series of 100 lectures throughout Germany within a month, designed to rouse the public to demand the return of the colonies, was inaugurated by Major Schnoeckel, of the Nazi Colonial Department at the Berlin University. He described the League of Nations as a machine-gun aimed toward Germany. A new League must be formed, not inspired by hate and mistrust, which would give Germany what she desired. The Powers must understand that no growing nation could do without colonies. Germany’s demand for colonies was a matter of justice, for which men were ready to fight. Another speaker declared that messages were frequently received from the former colonies asking when Germany would rule there again. TO REGAIN COLONIEB. NAZIS’ OFFICIAL CAMPAIGN. STRUGGLE TO BE CONTINUED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Feb. 19. The Berlin correspondent of the News Chronicle says the Nazis’ official campaign for the retrocession of the lost German colonies was launched today under Herr von Ribbentrop’s auspices at a monster meeting. This was attended by representatives of the Army, the Foreign Office and the Ministry of the Interior. Also present were non-commissioned officers of the old German Colonial Defence Force who, amid cheers, unfurled the old colonial colours. A Hitler boy and a Hitler girl made declarations pledging Germany’s youth to carry on to a successful conclusion Germany’s struggle for the restoration of her “stolen colonies.” DUTCH DEFENCEB. AIR FORCE STRENGTHENED. FORTIFICATIONS ALONG RIVERS. United Press Assn Elec. Tel. Copyright. THE HAGUE, Feb. 19. . The Chamber, by 60 votes to 29, passed a bill for the creation of a special fund of £6,500,000 in view of the increasing tension in Europe. Modern fortifications will be erected along the Rivers Meuse, Rhine and Scheldt, especially near important bridge heads. Also new coastal defences will be constructed and the Air Force will he strengthened. ARMAMENTS JUSTIFIED. PREPARATIONS FOR AGGRESSION. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, Feb. 19. The Manchester Guardian’s Moscow correspondent says that M. Radex, the most prominent of Bolshevik publicists, in an article in Izvestia, undertakes the unfamiliar task of justifying the plans of Britain, France and Belgium to increase their armaments. Without echoing the former cries of Imperialistic designs, M. Radek commends the wisdom of preparing to meet possible aggression from Germany. He asserts that Western Europe is not assured that Germany intends to strike the first blow in the East. . He emphasises that although Nazi adventurers are noisily campaigning against the Soviet, they may choose the path of least resistance and the Soviet Union is not that.
