I believe that they will enable the department to provide splendid service, but if Mr Sullivan wants to effect greater economics he should so into the matter of the oil—electric engines. They are used in Canada, the United States," and in many European countries. The running costs are about threepence per mile, or less, and they can pull a large train. Some years ago an omeer of the department, after a trip Home. reported that this type was still in the experimental stage. That. stage has now passed, and as we could make our own oil—from coal—the modern engine would cut expenses. down materially. They are rather dear to buy, but would soon pay. for them—selves—l am, etc., SUPER. Frankton, January 14.
