GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS.

The Gay Shield mare, Sirona, has been working steadily at headquarters and is bearing an improved appearance following her brief spell. Royal Artist. The ex-Tc Rapa trained Royal Arlist is now located at Taranaki and according to reports is making steady progress in his preparationKorero. Although he has been entered for events at Awapuni and Marton, Korero may not be raced again till later on in the season. Arctlo King. , Arctic King was not doing well out spelling, so his owner-trainer, W. J. Wood, has brought him back into his box and is pottering him about on the tracks. He will not race again, however, till the autumn. Sold to Melbourne. Tfrh two-year-old filly Dooument has been sold to a Melbourne buyer, a friend of the Ally’s owner, Mr H. D. Greenwood, and she is to be shipped direct to Melbourne by the Marama at the end of this month. All Shapes. Gambler’s Luck, who is in work at Wlngatui, is a massive gelding by Balboa from Whiplash. He does not show the perfection of formation below the knee which are followed with twisted fetlocks, and he may he one to prove that “they run in all shapes." In Rare Order. Lady Graceful looks in rare order for her trip to Ellerslie, states a report, but her chance in the Great Northern Derbv does not look too good. She is a hard Ally to keep tuned up and Is likely to lose condition on the trip. Has Freshened Up.

Lady Kyra has freshened up since racing at To Rapa and is progressing nicely in her holiday preparation at New Plymouth. There is a possibility that she may be taken to Ellerslle for the two concluding days. A good deal, however, will depend upon her showings at New Plymouth.

Aptly Named. If a prize were offered each season for the most aptly named horse registered, an entry from R. Skelton would he well in the running for the 103") trophy. lie has a filly by Moabito (imp.) from Won by Waiting, and she will race as Ilalf-a-mo. Apart from the significance of the name as associated with that of the dam (says a Sydney paper), the fact that the filly is from the point of view of bloodlines, “Half a Moabite” makes it all the more appropriate.

Novice Hurdler Shapes Well. The latest recruit to the Jumping ranks is Teddy Boy, who has been schooled over pony hurdles a couple of times recently, shaping really well for a beginner, states an Auckland reportIt is some little time since liis trainer, ,T. M. Buchanan, bad a jumper in his stable, though he had two useful ones in Brushwood Boy and Neil. When Teddy Boy lias had the necessary experience he may also develop winning form in the new department.

Clifford Two-yoar-olds. According to a Christchurch report gtout Heart will not, after all. he Sir Hilaries Clifford’s two-year-old representative at the Manawatu and Wniraropa meetings. The sister to Cricket Bat has not done well lately and it is thought she will be benefited by a little more" time. Her place will lie taken by Impersonator. This brother to Copyist lias done a lot of solid work, and though be lias not been seriously tested yet. be has demonstrated that he possesses speed, so lie looks a useful prospect. By Winning Hit. from Miss Mimic, he should be fairly good.

Viking Will Atone. The three-year-old Viking has had a hard season so far, and It says much for his stoutness that he is again doing his work well and resolutely. Viking is a very easy-going youngster, and apparently a better “doer" than the average, and he should go well In his engagements next week. Tho Aga Khan’s Yearlings. The Aga Khan’s Irish-bred yearlings have been taken in hand by F. Butters at Newmarket. There are seven colts and five Allies in the bunch, and they represent, ten different sires. The colts ore by Tetratema (two), Blandford, Fairway, Winalot, Coronach, and Rustom Pasha, and the Allies by Blenheim, Gainsborough, Solario, Fairway, and Sansovino. Johnstone’s Versatility. W. Johnstone, who headed the jockeys’ list in France during the recently concluded §eason, was at home over all distances, as he showed by winning a seven furlongs sprint on the same day that he scored in the world’s longest Hat race. The latter event was the Prix Gladiateur, run over three miles and seven furlongs, and Johnstone’s mount was Dejazcomba, who had run fourth in the Cesarewitch in England the previous year. Golden Hair. Golden Hair's win in the Wairongamai Handicap at Otaki was her Arst since she captured the Great Northern Oaks at Ellerslie about 20 months ago. Earlier in that season she won the Oaks at Flemington and the Thompson Handicap at Trentham with ’8.7, a smart performance for a three-year-old. Last season she did not reproduce that form, and she ran badly at the Grand National Axture. At Wanganui she tossed her rider off at the harrier and It was announced that she was to go to the stud, but plans were changed and she was sent to L- G. Morris.

Princess Doreen. Princess Doreen, despite her last at Otald, Is a mare who should reward those who follow her over the holidays. She has been back in form for nearly two months, and had the tracks been better she might have won a race at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Everything she goefe out with on the tracks, Cuddle and After Money included, she beats; and a mare who can do that should win races before long. She Is to do her racing at Awapuni over middle distances, and if all goes well she is to contest the Marton Cup on New Year’s Day. It seems obvious her connections still believe that she will get a mile and a quarter—and did she not beat Cuddle at just that distance recently on the tracks?

An Improved Horse. Big Dook, who looks an improved horse, shaped well in a work-out over six furlongs on the No. 1 grass at Ellerslle the other morning. At the recent New Zealand Cup meeting he won the Cressy Handicap, one mile, and at Woodville he was third in the Gothard Handicap, one mile and a distance. He is engaged in the Auckland Cup and also in the Christmas Handicap, and if he is reserved for the latter event he Is likely to show to advantage at the finish.

Olivo Smith Destroyed. The novice hurdler Olive Smith ended her career at Rlccarton this week. She was to have accompanied Arctic Star on a round of the schooling hurdles, but In running off at the first Jump she collided with a wing post and shattered one of her front legs, necessitating her Immediate destruction. Her rider, J. Veevers, sustained a broken collarbone. Olive Smith, owned by Mr W. Crossan, of Dunedin, was booked to compete In the hurdle races at the Dunedin meeting, and was to have been In charge of Veevers. She had shown ability over fences both on the track and In her few races to date, and her prospects in the south looked very bright. . Well-bred Hack. Host, the flve-year-old daughter of Hunting Song and Ilalhor, has been taken to Auckland to contest hack events. 'flic other day she shaped well in a three-furlong sprint on the tan and is in fine order for her engagements. Last season she won a six-furlong event at Dannevirke and was placed on several oilier occasions. This season she has also been in the money on lliree occasions, the last being at the recent Woodville meeting. Her dam, Ilalhor, was a good performer in her day, and she is excellently bred, being by Egypt (full-brother to Desert Gold) from All’s Well, by Hotchkiss from Miss Annie,, the dam of Antagonist, sire of Hoariri and Taneriri.
