LOCAL NULLS BUY FREELY.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, Friday.
With about half the catalogue of 29,769 bales sold by lunch, it was clear that the Dunedin wool sale would prove satisfactory. Crossbred wools were up id to 2d on last season's prices, while fine wools made an advance of from 3d to sd. The most optimistic estimate of the vendors were frequently exceeded. From the •outset bidding was strong from all quarters. Bradford was outbid by the Continent, Japan, America and Canada for crossbreds, but some good half-bred -clips went to the English centre market.
A feature was the keen -competition of New Zealand mills, which purchased steadily when super wools were offered- M-ost of the fine pieces went to the Continent while Japan, America and Canada were strong buyers of crossbreds..
The top price up to noon was 18Ad for nine bales of super -combing Merino. Ordinary Merinos realised from 14d to 16d, while half-bred ranged from 15d to 18d. Showy crossbreds realised to 13d and ordinary 8d to lOd. The passings were trifling.
