CHRISTMAS BONUS.

PAYMENT IN HAMILTON. BOROUGH COUNCIL WORKERS. DISTRIBUTION TOTALS £I2OO. A start was made this morning at the Hamilton Borough Council depot with the distribution of the first instalment of the Government s special grant to the unemployed. Rebel workers employed by the Council and eligible for participation in the dlstubution numbered 218, and'by midday to-day more .than half of these had received their holiday pay and bonus, equivalent in all to four weeks wages. The total amount to be distributed at the borough depot this week is about £I2OO. A change in the arrangements governing the payment of the one and ahalf weeks’ bonus to Hamilton unemployed was announced this morning. In order to facilitate the payment of the money, arrangements have now been made for the men who received their llrst bonus payment from the Borough Council to obtain the second bonus of one and a-half weeks also from the Council on January 3, at 3 p.m., instead of from the Post Office as was previously announced. All other men apart from those employed and paid by the Council will be paid by the Post Office on January 3. The payments are being made to all the under-mentioned workers who were in receipt of relief during the week ending December 7, 1935, and who had been on unemployment relief for a period or periods totalling at least 13 weeks during the previous -< 42 months: (a) Scheme 5 workers employed on a rationed basis (i.e., less than 40 hours per week). (b) Men In receipt of sustenance without work. (c) Gold prospectors, including men employed on developmental work other than those men employed full-time at standard rates of pay. (d) Clerical workers employed in bureaux, local body offices, relief depots, etc., who arc in receipt of not more than £2 10s per week in t the case of married men and 37s Gd per week in the case of single men. (c) Workers employed under schemes ic and 4d. (f) Camp workers and other men employed by State Departments and local authorities other than those employed full-time (40 hours per week or more) at standard rates of pay.

(g) Workers employed on the destruction of rabbits under scheme No. 11 and (li) Workers employed, in the eradication of ragwort and other noxious weeds. (i) Women registered with women's employment committees and eligible under the conditions mentioned in the introductory paragraph. Those men who were unable to claim their payments to-day will have the opportunity of obtaining them up till 11.30 a.m. on Saturday.
