RAGLAN POWER.

FUNCTION AT TE UKU. SWITCHING ON CEREMONY. (Special to Times.) TE UKU, Thursday. Further progress was made last evening in the reticulation of the Raglan area with electricity, when the power supply to the Te Uku district was officially switched on. The occasion was marked by a largely attended function in the Te Uku Memorial Hall, the guests including the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, Mr T. Hinton, chairman of the Central Waikato Electric Power Board, Mr G. Smith, district representative on the board, Mr H. W. Wilson, chairman of the Raglan County Council, and Messrs 11. Johnstone and J. L. Y. Martyn, county councillors, Mr A. L. Pegler, chairman of the Raglan Town Board, Mr E. Bernard, a member of the board, and power board and county officers. Mr W. J. ‘Lusty, of Te Uku, presided. The Minister of Agriculture was introduced by Mr G. Silcock. Warm tributes were paid toy the chairman and other speakers to the power board’s policy in extending its lines to the district, and the opinion was expressed that the provision ol power was a tangible contribution towards the progress of the district. The Minister of Agriculture, who was greeted with applause, commented that the Government’s policy was to •make the people on the land contented, and the provision of electricity and good roads were two factors which contributed largely towards the achievement of this aim. Mr Martin reviewed the Government’s policy and intimated that he would bring the Minister of Public Works round the Raglan district in the near future to enable him to sec the district’s requirements. It had been recognised that the Raglan district was one of the best districts between the Waikato Heads and Kavvhia, which had not yet been fully developed. The power was switched on by Mrs Moon, an old and highly esteemed resident of the district.
