That sunlight plays an important part in stimulating growth fn all forms of life is understood and accepted nowadays; hut the application of artificial light to stimulate growth In the vegetable world is only a recent innovation. An object lesson on one effect of light is afforded by the plane trees growing in the King’s ’ Cross area (says a Sydney paper). ' Most of these trees, foreign to Australia, shed their leaves In this country by the middle or end of June, but it is remarkable to note that such trees along Darlinghurst Road, King’s Cross, and down Macleay Street, which are near any strong light, or even any well-lighted windows, have retained a vigorous growth of leaf on those sides near the light, yet are almost bare of 1 foliage on limbs farthest away.
