Hamilton Playreaders,

The Hamilton Playreaders, under the direction of Mr J. F. -Montague, gave a reading of “The Importance of Being Earnest,” toy Oscar Wilde, on Thursday night. The play has Interesting situations and Is full of subtle wit, and the readers presented it very successfully. The players were Mrs McDonald, Misses Templer, Trafford, Lee, and Phyllis Torpy, Messrs J. F. Montague, A. E. Manning, F. Jackson, G. Abs-o-lum. After the reading Mr Montague threw out an excellent suggestion, that the reading clubs should visit each other occasionally. “ Sally ” at Palmerston North. Major F. H. Lampen, who was producer for the Auckland Amateur Society’s "A Runaway Girl," left this week for Palmerston North where he will produce for the Palmerston North Operatic Society the musical comedy “ Sally." “ No, No, Nanette,” at Wanganui. The Wanganui Operatic Society' will commence a five nights’ season of “No, No, Nanette,” on Monday, with Mrs Taber Gregory as producer and Gordon Mcßeth as musio director. Franklin Browne Auckland Operatlo Society. The last of ten performances—eight evening and -two matinees —of “ A Runaway Girl ” will be given by the Auckland Operatio Society -to-night. The Governor-General and Lady Galway attended Monday night’s performance. “There’s Always Juliet” at Dunedin. The Dunedin Repertory Society, under the direction of Miss Bessie Thomson, will 'commence a season with “There's Always Juliet,” by John van Druten, to-night. Two evenings of one-act plays were given at Invercargill this week by the Little Southlanders, on behalf of the funds of the Karitane-'Hunt Hospital. These plays were written and acted by that growing band of happy young people known as Little Southlanders, -contributors to the Children’s Page of the Southland Times. “A Man’s House” at Auokland. The Auckland Catholic 'Repertory Society will stage “A Man’s House,” by John Drinkwater, for two nights next month, under the direction of Ysolinde MoVeagh. The cast will include:— Salathiel Norton Hammond Esther Hono-r Sim ■Rachel Zena Ready Mathias Gilbert O’Sullivan Rex Sayers, Val Mulgan, J. G. Boyle, and Graham Oakley will appear in supporting roles. 'Picturesque period costumes will ■be a feature of the production. Sunday Gatherings In Sydney. The Australian Repertory Theatre Players issue an invitation to all amateur theatricals to make their r)nbI'oom in Pit Street. Sydney, a rendezvous on Sunday nights, when social evenings are eiv?n and sketches staged by various soeicles. This organisation is experimenting xvill l amateur movies. Other Activities.
