OBITUARY.

MR W. F. HARDING. \ well-known settler of the Matamata district, in the person of Mr William Frederick Harding died in a private hospital at Matamata. yesterday, after a .short'illness, aged 63 years. Mr Harding was the son of Mr and Mrs John Henry Harding, who are now living at 'Rotorua, aged 95 and 87 years respectively. He was born at Opaki, near Masterton, and spent his early life in the Wairarapa coaching, carrying and farming. He arrived in. Matamata in 1906 and bought a farm at Turangaomoana, in the Matamata district, where he had since been engaged in‘sheep and dairy farming and , horsebreeding.' He specialised in breeding draught horses and’ exhibited stock and horses at -many agricultural shows.. ‘ ’ Mr Harding was ‘a foundation member and strong supporter of the Matamata Agricultural and Pastoral Association. ' About 34 years ago he married Miss Alice Saunders, of Wairarapa, who survives him. There are five stms and four daughters, and to them, the widow, and a wide circle of friends, the deepest sympathy will be extended. "

MR ALBERT SHADBOLT.

The death occurred at the Waikato Hospital on Saturday evening of Mr Albert Shadbolt, at the age of 67 years. Mr Shadbolt’s parents were pioneers of the Akaroa district and farmed a considerable area 'there in tne early days. From 'the South Island Mr Shadbolt ' came to the north and was at one time a member of the Permanent Artillery, stationed at Wellington. Leaving Wellington he went to the Manawatu district, where he was well known as an athlete and sportsman. At the'time of the visit of His Majesty to New Zealand and Australia Mr Shadholt was one of the 100 selected members of the New Zealand volunteer forces to represent this country at the ceremonies! In Australia. All mem- * bers of this contingent were 6ft. 2in. or more in height.

Of quiet, unassuming manner, Mr Shudbolt was always ready to lend a helping hand to those less fortunately situated, and his death will he greatly regretted. He is survived by. his wife, a daughter and a soi^.

IVIR M. ADATCHI. THE HAGUE, Dec. 29. The death has occurred of Mr Mineichlro Adalchi, president of the Permanent Court of International Justice, aged 65. SIR ARTHUR FELL. LONDON, Dec. 29. The death is 1 announced of Sit Arthur Fell, formerly M.P. for Great Yarmouth, aged 81. He was a New Zealander by birth. MR LOWELL SHERMAN. HOLLYWOOD, Deo. 29. The death is announced of Mf Lowell Sherman, film director and actor, aged 49. The cause of death was pneumonia.
