SERVED ROYALTY.

FRANKTON MAN’S RECORD,

RECOLLECTIONS O'F KING EDWARD

The visit of the Duke of Gloucester to Hamilton to-day revives memories for at least one Frankton resident, of associations with previous Royal tours. He is Mr A. Lloyd, of Norton Road, who has had the distinction of serving the Duke’s parents and grandparents' during a long period of service in England.

When the late King Edward and Queen Alexandra visited Welbeck Abbey in ISOS, Mr Lloyd, who was then in the service of the Duke of Portland, had the honour of waiting on them. In the following year he was attached to the Duke of Marlborough’s staff, and performed similar duties on the occasion of Their Majesties’ visit, to Blenheim Palace.

When King George V. visited New Zealand in 1901, Mr Lloyd was a member of the staff of Lord Hanfurly, and he toured the Dominion with the Royal party as second butler.
