FOR THE SKIN.
A good home remedy for flaooid and lax skin, especially beneath the eyes, is given by “Madelon" in the Australian Journal for January. When your skin gets loose and you want to tighten it up to look your best, break the white of an egg out of the yolk and beat that white until almost but not quite frothing. Wash the face with castile soap, or a good unscented soap (scented soaps are always inclined to sacrifice fat for perfume) and rinse in rain water, or clean water with a dash of eau de cologne in. If no eau de cologne, put oatmeal in your water jug each time it is filled. This softens , the skin'.
Dab the skin dry, but do not rub. This always stretches it. Then, with the fingers, dab on a liberal amount of the white of egg, leaving on for 20 minutes. Your skin will tighten up until you feel it is in a plaster cast. The feeling is strange, but it does.not last, as after a while you wipe off the white of egg with a goOd cold cream in several applications, then dab softly at this until the skin is free of grease. (Vanishing cream does not suit many skins. It melts in too quickly and leaves it to pucker in our dry heat.) Then powder as usual, with a good rice powder, preferably Java rice; rachel for dark or sallow skins always. Before going to a dance, this treatment keeps the face fresh all evening, but when warm renew the powder with a handy puff.
