TE RAPA ACTIVITY. STAR ARTIST SHAPES WELL. ROYAL ARTIST GALLOPED. The course proper, ten feet out from the rails, was available for fast work at Te Rapa this morning when a number of candidates with engagements at the Auckland meeting was sent along. The best gallop of the morning was that of Star Artist who is in first-rate order. Except where specified all work was carried out on the course proper. The first to work were Star Artist (McKenzie) and Prince Acre (Winder), the latter picking up Star Artist at the three furlong peg. The Railway candidate ran her first three furlongs in 36s and reached the six furlong post in 1.14 2-5. Prince Acre, who had a stone the better of the weights, was about a length and a-half in front at the finish. , . . . Royal Artist (McKenzie), assisted by Light* Comedy (Winder) over the first half-mile, was clocked to run six furlongs in 1.18. The half-mile was covered in 53 1-5, and the five in 1.6. They were loafing somewhat over the initial stages of the trip.

A Useful Half-mile. Wahinereihi (Amunsden) was several lengths in front of Calcutta (McGregor) at the conclusion of half-a-mile in 50s. The ' former is engaged at Pirongia on Boxing Da>, Calcutta bting entered for the Taranaki meeting. , , Pennyplain (Amunsden) was doing better than Magic Land (McGregor) over six furlongs on the plough in 1.21. ■ i Golden Princess (Amusden), alone, sprinted half-a-mile In 50 1-6. she was carrying close on 9.0 ne effort w r as a commendable one. Stallange Thorne (Winder) was in front of Flit Acre (McKenzie) at the three furlong peg reached in 37 4-o. Phiakuo (McGregor), who is also engaged at Taranaki, hit over five furlongs on the plough in 1.5. He is bearing an improved appearance and should show.up in the company engaged at New Plymouth.

Lion Heart Over Five. Lion Heart (Winder), who was picked up by Sirona (Mclnally) at the three, clocked 1.2 1-5 for five furlongs'. The former covered his first three furlongs in 36s and. though Sirona, who had over a stone the worst of the weights, had the advantage at the end, Lion Heart’s effort was satisfactory as he was finishing on the better of the pair. He is engaged in the Robinson Handicap on the first day of the Auckland meeting and is to be ridden by the apprentice, J. Winder. Kormalv (Radford), after going slowly over the .first part, encompassed a round in 2.'5. He is to contest the hurdle race at Pirongia. ‘Consort, another Pirongia candidate, was timed to reach the half-mile Peg in 52 l-ss.

Additional riding engagements at Auckland include, N. R. McKenzie, 'Scotch Nation; R. Syme, Simeon. Luminary is not starting on Boxing Day hut is engaged for one of the latter days of the meeting and Is to have the services of J. Day. Plans for Tradesman. Valpai is to race at Pirongia on Boxing Day and all going well may be produced later in the Auckland meeting. Tradesman is an unlikely starter at Ellerslie unless rain intervenes tc soften the tracks. A Winder stated this morning that Prince Acre would not be fulfilling his engagement on the second day at Taranaki as was originally intended. Silver Wattle,‘ who is freely entered for events at the Pirongia meeting, was this morning schooled over two fences in the straight and though he got in too close to the first he cleared the second in fine style. Du Barry will not be fulfilling her engagements on the first day of the Auckland meeting.

The 'course proper was opened next to the rails for fast work at Te Awamutu this morning and the going was fast. Pleasing Work |was done by Solarium, Namakia and King’s KnaveOn the course proper Wait and. See was allotted 'three furlongs, taking 4145. King’s Knave and Namakia, who were together at the end, hit’out over six furlongs in 1.15 4-5, both working along pleasingly. Galilee had Lady Ruler as a companion over four furlongs which they completed easily in 50 3-5. \ very impressive trial was done by (he Auckland Cup candidate, Solarium (Wiggins), who was sent away from the mile and a-quarter barrier to run home in 2.7 3-5. He had the assistance of Ivanapa over the last six furlongs, finishing on much 100 strongly for his companion. Solarium finished several lengths ahead. The last mile was run in i. 40 and the last half-mile in 495. Coronls Over Four. Coronis traversed four furlongs in 535. Musquil was billing out nicely al Ibe end of a mile in I■ i 3. SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS, TE RAPA HORSES PEASE. ' GOLD TRAIL SHAPES WELL. DIATOMUS GOES ATTRACTIVELY. . (By Telegraph.—press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. . Fine though dull weather prevailed for the semi-final gallops at Ellerslie this morning. The course proper with the poles 35ft. out was open for fast work and the No. 3 grass track was also available but was not in much demand. The going was excellent. On the course proper the Cup candidates that impressed. most were Kiltowyn, Vintage, Southdown and Gold Trail, while among the sprinters the best efforts were registered by King Ford, Gay Seton, Golden Wings, Diato■monous, Sinking Fund and Mother Superior. 'On the course proper Courthaven was the first out, traversing a mile in 1.43 3-5. Kelly assisted her over the last .seven Furlongs and was doing better at the finish In 1.31 3-'5. Both worked well, especially the latter. Copyist, after going fast over the early part, was easing up at the conclusion of ,six .furlongs which took 1.25 4-5.

Cricket Bat, after running his four furlongs in 535, got to the end of a mile in 1.45 1-5, running on at the end.

King Ford Hits Out. Tlie best five furlongs of 'th'e morning was credited to King Ford who ran the distance in 1.1 3-5, the first ■two being covered in 23 4~55. He carried a lightweight tout his gallop was a good one.

The two-year-old Bun Fight completed six furlongs in 1.18 2-5,' going very evenly throughout. Hunting Jay ran home from the five furlong post in 1.5, doing it comfortably. Haut Monde, who went away slowly from the five furlong post, ran the last half-mile in 495, doing it well. ■ Th'e Khedive and Hunting Bag traversed a round in 2.8 3-5, the last seven furlongs taking 1.37 3-5 and there was not much between them at the end. Kotou was going very freely at the end of half-a-mile in 50 3-as. The Cup candidates Rocket (Russell) and Vintage (Goldfinch) completed a mile and a-quarter in 2.15 1-5, the final round taking 2.4 4-5. Vintage, who had the outside running, covered a lot more ground than his companion and beat him comfortably, going away at the finish. Gay Seton Showfc Speed. . 'Gay Seton displayed plenty of speed while running six furlongs in 1.16 1-5. It was a smart effort. After running 'her first three furlongs in 42 3-ss, Lady Spy completed six furlongs in 1.21 2-5. The Railway Handicap horses Diatornous and Sinking Fund galloped attractively over five furlongs, the first two in 24s and the full distance in 1.2 1-5. The last half-mile took 49 4-ss. They finished on terms. Penelope was sent half-a-mile, the last three furlongs toeing run in 38 1-5'S. Sea Fox Well. After running his first three furlongs in 37 l-5s Sea Fox • registered 1.43 4-5 for awvile. This hack has been working well since his arrival. There was little between Big Dock and Detrain at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.18 i-5. The two-year-olds Symcony, Legatee and Parquet, jumped off at the seven furlongs post amt: were pulled up after passing the three furlongs peg, the four furlongs taking 495. T’hey finished as named. Sweet Agnes worked alone over six furlongs which she covered in 1.17 4-5. She was decidely lame after returning to her stall and her prospects of racing at the meeting are very remote. King Musk beat Jalldy Karo o-ver seven furlongs in 1.31 2-5, the last six taking 1-18 3-5. Cranford was not bustled to run the last five furlongs of his work in 1.5 3-5. Over a similar distance Mother Superior registered 1.3, the first two furlongs In 255. She finished up her task in good style. Horn’s Reef Goes\well. Tunneller, Horn’s Reef and Final Shot finished almost in line after running six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Horn's Reef, on the outside, seemed to be doing best at the end. The cup candidates Gold Trail and Southdown were sent a mile and aquarter which they encompassed in 2.14 4-5. They ran the final round in 2.4 4-5, and the last six furlongs in 1.20. 2-5. Southdown finished clear ■of his companion but all the same Gold Trail did her work well.

Gaysome, having her first _ sprint •since arriving ran six furlongs in 1.18 and went well throughout. •Golden Wings recorded the best, six furlongs of the morning, running the first two furlongs, in 24 3-ss, three in 36 4-5 s and the full distance 'in 1.15 3-5, running on solidly at Ihc finish. Variant was given useful work, running her last .three furlongs in 39 4-ss. Klltowy.n’s Brilliant Gallop. After breakfast Kiltowyn was again •responsible for a brilliant gallo.p over a .round in 2.2 1-5., He covered the last, 'seven furlongs in 1.30 4-5 and the final three in 40s. He finished in good style and it was the best round ■registered so far by Gup 'candidates for ibe coming meetingThe hurdler Yerdeti was limed to run a similar distance in 2.7 2-5. On Hie tan Gay Marigold (outside), Baroscope and King March (inside) were sent over a round in 1.56, the last six furlongs taking 1.23 2-5. Hounslow (Pascoe), Sandy Dix (C. Thomson) were schooled over four hurdles in the centre of the course, giving a satisfactory display. Over the Big Country. Wee Pat (Mcßae), Vai'peen (Rennie), Callamart (C. Thomson), Jayson (W. Pascoe), En •Tout’ (Mclnally), Pahu (Burgess) and Cotsfleld (F. Foster)- were associated in a schooling bout over the steeplechase course. They all fenced well until the# first' of the double the last time, where Pahu jumped the wing and his rider got a nasty fall. After jumping the. sod wall just previously Valpeen and’ Wee Pat pulled over and cleared the water jump. Cotsfleld, Valpeen, Jayson and Billy Boy (F. Thompson), who joined in at the brush fence near the mile on the first round, were most’ prominent at the finish. Domo ('Baker) also joined in, at the double the first time, but came to grief at. the ne>k obstacle, the stone wall. He was re-mounted and joined again with Clan Ronald (Carmont) on the final round. Afterwards the lastmentioned pair went over the fences on the flat, again giving a satisfactory display. TAKANINI GALLOPS. GAY BLONDE IN GOOD HEART. GAY S'HEIK GOES WELL. . (Special to Times.) Matorni and Nun Nicer brushed over five furlongs in 1.2 3-ss, the former finishing just in front after Nun Nicer ran wide at the turn. Alignment ran half-a-mile in 54 4-ss. Kil'onsoa and Enlightment were clocked to negotiate six .furlongs in 1.16 3-5. Gay Blonde was allotted solid work over a mile and a-quarter and is in great heart for, her engagements ait the meeting. Gay Sheik was a length in front or Flood Tide at the finish of half-a-mile in 48 2-5'S. Persian and Spearcourt ran .seven furlongs in 1.29 1-5, the last five in 1.3.
