POLICE ACTION CRITICISED
OAMARU, Wednesday.
Roy Hunter, aged 24, a well-known footballer, was fined £7 10s this morning for bookmaking. Ho had been, acting as agent for another. The Magistrate, Mr H. W. Bundle,' S.M., commented adversely on the ipollce action in not bringing the case ’sooner. The offence was committed on ’November 10 and he was not satisfied as to the delay. Mr Bundle said it seemed hardly in order for the police, ■when Hunter called regarding obtaining a billiard-saloon licence, to state that they could make no promise, but that they might have to bring the matter of a double-chart before the Court. A warrant should not be held up indefinitely.
