DEPRESSED AREA
BILL BEFORE COMMONS. THIRD READING PASSED. RUGBY, Dec. 14. When the third reading of the Do* pressed Areas Bill was passed In the House of Commons by 221 votes to 53, the Minister of Labour, Mr Arthur Stanley, stated Hie measure was offered as a ■contribution to the solution of the unemployment problem and it ■might develop and have a much larger application. The Minister pointed out the income of the, working classes had increased by several millions of pounds during the last year or so, and the number of people in employment was now within a few thousands as great as at any time within history.
