NOTES AND COMMENTS (By "Trudgeon-”) Coming Events. December 19. —'Centre executive meets at Cambridge. January 12.—Thames Old Pupils’ Garnival. January 23.—Morrinsville Club’s Carnival. January 26.—Y.'M.G.A. 'Club's Carnival. FROM TRUDGEON’S NOTEBOOK.
Executive Meets. A full representation of delegates is requested for a meeting of the South Auckland Centre executive on Wednesday. Several important matters, including tiie question of sending a team to the National Championships, are to be considered. “ Swimming Booming.” “ So far as I can see, swimming is booming in the South Auckland 'Centre,’’ commented Mr. R. S. Entwistle, the centre secretary, during
the week. “ The Cambridge Club's membership now exceeds 135 while the Rotorua clubs are also doing well.” A Family Affair. Old Technicals’ relay team looks as though it might be a family affair. Frank Haughey and Tom Haughey are certain inclusions and it is very possible that Ken Haughey and Arthur Haughey will fill the remaining Lwo positions. In is much the same in the ladies’ division where the Barton sisters will make three if not four of the team. Delegate as Vice-president. The New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association lias elected South Auckland’s delegate, Mr. F. L. Collins, of Christchurch, to the position of vice-president. Mr. Collins well deserves the honour conferred upon him as for some years he has ably represented South Auckland’s interests upon the executive and has been instrumental In placing the centre upon the map.
Polo Captain Retires. Jack Budd, who has captained England’s water-polo team and is leader of the unbeaten Empire S.C. which defeated the Hungarian national team at Wembley, has retired from waterpolo. The reason for Budd’s decision is that he had determined to retire immediately the Empire S;G. had obtained their ambition by defeating the world champions—the Hungarians—which they accomplished at the Empire Pool, Wembley, on August 29.
Diving Well. Miss Myrtle Goodwin, who in 1933, was annexing the majority of diving events in the South Auckland centre, again looks like being successful this year. She has all the grace in flight and the neatness bf entry that is required for plain diving and with a little more practice, she should be able to master two or three of the more difficult assignments. She .was performing quite successful screws from the low hoard in Hamilton the othbr night.
