WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
AT FAIRFIELD. The Fairfield Women’s- Institute picnic took place on Wednesday last, this forming the December meeting. Upon the kind invitation of Mrs Rhodda the picnic was held at Ruakura Farm, where a very jolly day was spent. Two competitions provided a deal of fun. In the first, peeling potatoes, blindfolded, Mrs McKinnon had most points to 'her credit, Mrs Kelly also being awarded a prize. The second item was a race, conyeying beans on a knife, this being won by Mrs Kelly. Suggestions were taken for improvements which the Institute might adopt for the coming year. To conclude a very happy -day Mr Rhodda delighted the ladies by conducting them on the rounds of the apiary, where 'he spared no effort in setting forth and explaining the many interesting points of bee-lore. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the host and hostess.
