AIR PAGEANT.
FUNCTION AT RUKUHIA. Ktac SPLENDID ORGANISATION.. One of the outstanding features of the Air Pageant at Rukuhia on Saturday was the .splendid organisation of the events, there not being one -hitch during the programme. The' racing and flying were of a very high order, and many complimentary remarks have been, heard concerning the display. Concluding results were: — Motor-cycle Tests. New Zealand Motor-cycle Open Championship.—First semi-final: B. Smith 1, R. Ranby 2. Second semifinal: R. Matson 1, L. McLaren 2. Final: R. Matson 1, L. McLaren 2, R. Ranby 3. Time, 2.6 - 2-5. S.A.M.A.C.A. Motor-cycle Handicap. —A. McLaren 1, B. Ranby 2, L. McLaren 3. Novelty Events. £i - Balloon Bursting—Mrs G. W. Gower 1, Mrs C. 11. Leighton 2. Rescuing the Dummy.—Mrs W. J. AVIATION IN DOMINION,
The various trophies won at the Pageant during the day were presented at a smoke concert in the Winter Show Hall, when officials and visitors were entertained. Among ihe guests were the Centenary fliers SquadronLeader J. D. Ilewett and Flying-Officer C. E. Hay. The president of the South Auckland Motor and Air Carnival Association, Mr W. J. King, presided.
The toast of “The Association” was proposed by Mr C, F. Thomas and responded to by Mr King, while Mr W. E. Nicholson proposed “Associated Clubs,” Mr R. Spencer Mason, replying on behalf of the Auckland Aero Club. Mr R. Smith, on behalf of the Hamilton Motor Cycle Club, and Mr R. Messenger, on behalf of the New Zealand Racing Motor Drivers Association.
.The toast of “The Visitors” was proposed by Mr A. E. Sandford and repield to by Messrs I-lewett and Kay. Mr Ilewett gave a very interesting and instructive resume of the flight from Mildenhall to Melbourne, recounting several humorous incident's. He added that New Zealand was not very far behind any country in the world in the matter of aviation. He had noticed that interest in aviation was most apparent in Llie Waikato and this'was due to the Pageants such as the one staged on Saturday. •: Mr Kay mentioned Iliat the plane they had brought out was one of the latest and most useful type in the world and he hoped that it would stimulate interest in commercial aviation.
The president then presented the following trophies:— Runnymede Cup, presented by Mr A. J. Steele, Mr T. Mullan. Kennedy Cup, for motor cycle race, K. Matson, who also won the first New Zealand Open i mile grass championship. Auckland Aero Club Cup for motor cycle race, Mr A. McLaren. Points Gup in motor cycle races, Mr A. McLaren. . , , , The musical programme included songs, Messrs E. 11. Quill. 11. Saunders, K. P. Eade; saxophone solos, Mr !■; H. Quill; tap dancing, Messrs Phil. Dixon and E. R. McKenzie; humorous songs, Mr 55'- l-’cnton; humorous monologues, Mr P. Evans, Mr J. T. Buttersby.
