INSURANCE MANAGER KILLED.

DISCOVERY IN.-RIVER-BED.

(By TelegraMi.— Fress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday.

Mr Dudley -Buddie, manager of the Christchurch branch of the National Insurance Company, was killed on Friday afternoon when his car left the road in the lO'tira Gorge, and fell 200 feet into the river-bed below.

The tragedy was discovered yesterday afternoon when two men, who were searching for Mr Buddie, saw his car crumpled and overturned at the bottom of a ravine.

Mr Buddie was found five yards from the car with a broken neck, death apparently having been instantaneous.

After a business visit to the West Coast Mr .Buddie left Greymouth at 3.30 p.m. on Friday, with the intention of driving to Otira and putting, his car on the train. On arriving at Otira he discovered that there was no suitable train, and notified his wife by telegram that he intended to drive over the gorge. When no further news was received Mrs Buddie informed the police and a search was started on Saturday.
