SARAZEN IN THE SOUTH.

PRAISE FOR SHIRLEY COURSE.

DUNEDIN, Sunday.

Discussing his Dominion lour today, Gene Sarazcn, the American professional golfer, criticised the failure of practically all clubs to make provision for watering the greens and fairways. The Shirley course in Christchurch was the only place in which this practice was carried out and lie considered these the best, links south of Honolulu, including Australian courses.

An exhibition four-ball match was played on the Balmaccwan links yesterday afternoon by Gene Sarazen .and A. J. Shaw,.New Zealand open champion. who were opposed by B. V. Wright, last, year's New Zealand amateur champion, and K. Ross, the Otago Club champion.

Sarazen could not get on to* his short game. Wright and Ross won, 2 up.

The best, round was produced by Wright, who returned a -card of 70, Sarazen taking nine strokes more. Both Shaw and Ross returned incomplete cards.

SARAZEN AND SHAW. VISIT TO HAMILTON. Advice, has' been received by the Hamilton Golf Club that A. J. Shaw, and Gene Sarazen, the. noted golfers, will visil Hamilton on Saturday. December 15, and play an exhibition match at St. Andrews. Shaw is Ihe holder of Hie New Zealand open title, while Sarazen, who comes from the United States, is an ex-British open championship holder. Their appearance on Ihe St. Andrews links is being awaited with interest by local golfers.
