UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE.
EXAMINATIONS COMMENCE.
LARGE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES.
■Groups of -animated -students, conversing distractedly over the merits and de-merits of examination papers, signalled the commencement -of the University Entrance Examinations throughout the Dominion to-day. An even greater number of candiates than usual sat for -the initial tests in Hamilton the -total number taking the papers amounting to 147. In addition, a further eleven are aspirants for university scholarships. Last year the examinations attracted 144 candidates, but, perhaps on account of the introduction 'of the school leaving certificate examination, there has been a further increase this year. In addition the abolition of the accountancy preliminary examinations has made the university entrance the first step for those desiring to proceed with accountancy professional studies. The centre in Hamilton is under the control of Mr W. T. Goad, with whom are associated a number of assistants, whose task in distributing papers and maintaining 'Strict control is no easy one. , . The examinations will conclude on December 12.
