DOMINION AND AUSTRALIA. PRESSURE BY PRODUCERS. CULMINATES IN DEADLOCK. United Press Assn. —Eie<\ Tel. Copyright 0 CANBERRA, Dec. 2.
It is now disclosed that during the trade conference between representatives of the New Zealand and Australian Governments an attempt was made to overcome the deadlock regarding the entry of Australian citrus fruits and other commodities into New Zealand, and the entry of New Zealand potatoes, apples and pears into Australia. A proposal was made for the introduction of a quota system, the New Zoaland delegations seeking a minimum export quota of 10,000 tons of potatoes annually. Tire Commonwealth Ministers, yielding to pressure from their Victorian and Tasmanian colleagues, rejected the proposal. ■Similarly the fruit interests resist; ed any move to allow New Zealand apples and pears into Australia owing to th’e parlous plight of local growers. •
