SMITH. ’ ACCEPTED BY SHAW. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Mr J. S- Shaw, owner of Worthy Queen, has accepted a challenge from F. J. Smith, owner of the American mare Nell Volo, to race any tro_tter over a mile for a side wager of £SOO. Mr Shaw stipulates for three heats of a mile each, the best two of the three to take the .stake. The match is to take place about Christmas, and the .side wager is to be augmented by the club where the match eventuates. ■ A WORLD'S RECORD. ■ HAROLD LOGAN HONOURED. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Harold Logan, the Dominion’s champion pacer, is the first horse in the country to earn a presentation all to himself. .. . At the New Brighton course this morning, the., committee of the New Brighton Trotting Club presented him with a specially-made cover in ins owner’s colours, in recognition of the world's'record put up at New Brighton on October 6, in winning the Avon Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, In 2.36 3-5. Harold Logan stood like a gentleman while the cover was put over him hy Mr Walter Thompson, the president of the club, and then posed sedately for a photograph.
