BEEF AT WESTFIELD
KEEN DEMAND. LATE BATES MAINTAINED. RANGE OF PRICES. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Messrs A. Backhand and Son, report: At Westfield the cattle pens contained 273 head against 146 last Wednesday. The entry comprised 157 steers and 116 cows and heifers. The quality of the ox beef was first class. There was a keen demand throughout, and last week’s advance was sustained. Extra choice ox sold to £1 8s per 1001 b, choice prime- £1 5s to £1 7s, secondary and plain £1 to £1 4s, prime young cow and heifer beef, £1 5s to £1 Bs, ordinary 17s to £1 4s. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £ll to £ll 17s 6d, heavy £lO to £lO 17s 6d, lighter £8 15s to £9 17s 6d, light £7 to £8 12s Od, small and unfinished £5 10s to £6 17s 6d, extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £7 5s to £8 1 Os, heavy £6 to £7 2s 6d, lighter £4 10s to £5 17s, just tillable £2 to £4 7s 6d.
