CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. A conference of delegates of South Island county councils (o-night considered a proposal to form a South island branch of the New Zealand Counties’ Association. The proposal was overwhelmingly defeated, most of the delegates considering that the formation of such a body would lead to the introduction of the “North versus South" issue, which was undesirable, and that the present system adequately met South Island requirements. A motion was carried rceoru.nending the executive of the association to suggest to allllialed counties that groups according to highways districts lie formed to discuss matters of mutual interest ami formulate remits.
