TWO RETAILERS FINED.
PURCHASES BY CONSTABLE. Charged with selling bread in a public place on Sunday and with keeping open a shop for the sale of goods on that day, Florence Roberta Earle, was convicted and ordered to paycosts (10s) on each charge by Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court this morning. She pleaded guilty-Senior-Sergeant J. J. Power staled that Miss Earle, who had a business in Hamilton East, on a recent Sunday sold a small loaf of bread to a constable in plain clothes. The shop was open. Defendant gave the excuse that she was under the impression that as the simp was a registered dairy she was entitled to sell ulher goods as welt as milk, ole. Two similar charges were preferred against Christian Keane, confectioner, of Hamilton East. Constable T. Harris testified lliat one Sunday lie entered defendant’s Shop in plain clothes and purchased a lid bar of chocolate and Jib of butter. The shop was open to customers.
Defendant was fined 10s, with costs 10s, on the charge of felling, and ordered to pay costs lOs On the charge of keeping the shop open.
