HOROTIU ABATTOIR.
KILLING CHARGES. POSITION OF COMPANY. PROFIT DOUBTFUL. “The butohers need have no fear In regard to the company carrying out Its undertaking as per the agreement,’’ stated a letter from the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company received by the Borough Council last evening. The letter was In answer to representations previously submitted to the council by the South Auokland Master Butchers’ Association. The association, in a letter to the council, had referred to a statement that killing | charges at Horotiu were not reducible until the company had made good Its loss estimated at £ISOO. This loss, the association contended, had been recovered. The increases in killing rates which oame into operation on May 1 were estimated to produce approximately £1550 per annum additional revenue, but as the abattoir accounts showed a dead loss of approximately £IBOO per annum on the old rates this £1550 and more was required to enable the Arm to break even, and a full year’s benefit had not yet heed obtained from the increased rates, stated the company. Allowing of the benefit of reduced wages since May 1 it was very doubtful if operations since May 1 to dat9 showed a profit, much less any contribution to the £ISOO loss whloh had to be made up. The actual position would be ascertained at June 30.
