RACING.

TE AROHA MEETING. TE RAPA CANDIDATES PREPARE. FOG HINDERS WORK. Thick fog which did not lift until the morning was well advanced, considerably delayed training operations at Te Rapa this morning. A number to be allotted easy pace work sent along in the fog. All the work was done right-handed on the No. 1 grass. Recent rain had taken the sting out of the ground and some oreditable times were recorded by several Te Aroha candidates. Limex (H. Long) and Sinking Fund (G. Connor) hit out freely over five •furlongs in 1.3 2-5, the first halfmile belgn negotiated in 51s. Limex, who had the best of the jump out, was well in front of her companion at the finish of the effort. Limex is a back candidate for Te Aroha and her display this morning would indicate that she is in good racing condition and may make amends for her disappointing showing at Rotorua. Sinking Fund, who was in the money at the Thermal fixture, was not disgraced by his display this morning. The morning’s best half-mile essay was to the credit of Royal Visitor (H. Tinker) and Racefleld (A. Gilmer), who left the distance behind in 50 i-ss. This pair are in good nick at present. Paganelli, with 0. Mclnally up, was not speeded along, being restricted to strong pace work on the No. 1 grass. Although not partial to right-handed tracks the Te Rapa veteran will claim a strong following In his Saturday engagement. His preparation shows that he is now'in beautiful condition and a repetition of his Takapuna brilliancy will ensure his doing full justice to his careful preparation on Saturday. Paganelli has been entered for the sprint and open mile at Te Aroha and while no definite decision has 'been arrived at as yet it is most likely that he will be started in the sprint event. -Wilton (Mclnally) had the measure of Beau Irish (J. Day) over seven furlongs in 1.30. The first three_ were run in 365, and the half-mile in 49 t-ss. It was a pleasing offort and one that reflects the present condition of these promising local gallopers. Wilton is engaged in the Champion Hack Handicap at Te Aroha on Saturday and as the Day Comet gelding is nicely weighted ho should give a forward aocount of himself. Beau Irish may start on the second day at To Aroha as this morning’s effort would indicate that the boil that was affecting him on Tuesday is not interfering to any extent with his prepara lion at present. Illuminelli (Long) was going better than Phenomenon (Hika) at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.4. The half-mile was covered In 50 2-ss.

Ruby Dawn (Connor) and Trowbridge (McMahon) were sent over a roupd which occupied two minutes. Trowbridge Is being reserved for the second day at Te Aroha and will he ridden by W. Rennie. The pair hit out freely and were on terms at the finish, Chang' (Hlka) went six furlongs in 1.20 1-5 and was timed to do 1.34 for the seven. Seifert’s charge has been working impressively of late and would only need to repeat his track performances to give a better account of himself with the colours up.

Among those to be exercised were The Pullet, Kaliau, Tradesman, Gay Duke, Arcade (who wi]l be ridden toy P. Mollroy at Te Aroha) and L’Allegro. Cruaohan (W. Rennie) and Ruby Meteor (A. Gilmer) were sent over hurdles which they negotiated in pleasing fashion. Pelting did not put in an appearance this morning. He will not be making the trip to Te Aroha as soreness in one of his legs has decided trainer T. E. Wilson to turn him out for a short spell. The trouble is not of a serious nature and it is anticipated that he will be back on the tracks before long.

WORK ON TRAINING TRACK. SOME GOOD PERFORMANCES. (By Telegranli.—Special tn Times.) TE-AROHA, Thursday. A heavy fog enveloped the course this morning, and very few times could be taken. Tin Lap and Grand Tea executed half pace work twice round. Don’t Lap flnishea a neck in front of Mungatoon over a mile in 1.43 4-5. King’s Archer bowled along nicely once round. Unoco showed speed over seven furlongs and Moonfieet was allotted good work over two circuits. Arise, moving a little short, went half pace over six furlongs, and Habit bowled along strongly over a mile. Saint Musk was going quite as well as Desert Star over four furlongs in 51 3-ss, and Miss Lu and The Acre —Mangamaire gelding ran three in 395. Chief Conk easily accounted for Ida Merling over five furlongs. Miss Lorraine sprinted three furlongs fast, and Inllation, looking well, was allotled pace work over a mile. A large number of horses is expected to arrive to-day.

At the annual meeting of the Sports Association this week a letter was received from the secretary of the Auckland racing district committee, which stated, inter alia: —“It would appear that your association has held unregistered meetings in the terms of the New Zealand rules of racing, and all those participating therein consequently become disqualified from taking part in registered meetings.. The district committee yesterday agreed to remove the disqualification from all officials, owners, trainers, horses, riders, etc., who have taken part in horse races under your association up to and including your last meeting on March 28, 1932, hut they desire to point out to you that they will not take such a lenient attitude' in future should vou again hold unregistered horse races. The fact of your association making any rules does not exempt you from the operation of the New Zealand rules of racing.” The president -of the Sports Association, Mr C. F. Pearce, reported that the association committee had received a permit from the Minister*of Internal Affairs to hold a non-totalis-alor race meeting, and the committee recommended the continuance of conducting the horse races. It was decided unanimously to continue tiie horse races, but to advise all owners, jockeys and others that they competed at their risk of toeing disqualified. •
