SILVER CURRENCY.
AMERICAN PROPOSAL. BILL FOR PURCHASE. ISSUE OF SILVER COINAGE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received Feb. 23, 1.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Feb. 22. The House of Representatives’ Coinage Committee to-day reversed its previous decision and approved the subcommittee’s bill providing for the pur'ohase of silver bullion for monetary purposes. The bill was amended, however, to limit the purchases to 250,000,000 dollars (£50,000,000 at par) worth of metal. Under the bill as It now stands, the Treasury would purchase the silver, coin It into silver dollars and Issue silver certificates against them. The new certificates, together with onedollar silver 'certificates already outstanding, would be on a parity with other outstanding currency, and acceptable as full legal tender.
