CHURCH UNION.
DOMINION BODIES. DECISION OP PRESBYTERIANS. CLOSER CO-OPERATION. (Special to Times). WANGANUI. Thursday. The report of the committee or Church union presented to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, meeting at present In Wanganui, Indicated that during the year there had been a good deal of effective co-ope-ration between the various branches of the Church throughout the Dominion. On the question of corporate union, the committee’s 'report stated that the position was very disappointing. Sessions throughout the Presbyterian Church had been circularised with the request that they .should consider the question of opening conversations with the Methodist and Congregational Churches with a view to union. Sessions were asked to vote on the matter. A large number of sessions had made no response. Of those responding, the vast majority were in favour of these conversations being instituted. The committee’s conclusion, however, was that the minority against such a step and the number voicing no opinion created a situation which gave the Assembly no confidence in pursuing the matter further at present. The committee, therefore, recommended that a halt be called in the prosecution of corporate union for the time being and that a movement l'or closer co-operation with sister churches be concentrated on, in the belief that an effective movement for corporate union would grow out of action along such lines
